ClassDescription
Drawing from LifeLearn fundamental skills and develop better control of drawing. We will learn to craft and draw a still life with props, observe through nature drawing, and do fast sketches and long drawings. Students make their own sketchbooks to fill with observational drawings using classical methods and deepen observation. Materials include graphite stick, marker, pen and pencil, and sketch paper. Scaled for different age groups.
Zine MeansWhat does “zine” mean? Learn how to make the popular tiny books that everyone loves! The zine-making techniques in this class introduce students to paper folding as an artform, increase dexterity and are easy to share including loooooong accordion books, 8-page and 12-page zines, groupwork zines and one colossal zine. The magic of zines is continued with drawing and collage about favorite subjects; every zine is unique! This class is scaled for all ages and incorporates collage, illustration, and creativity for every student who loves to read and share their own stories. Materials include drawing and office paper, drawing tools and collage supplies.
Your Daily Journal (Drawing & Writing)In this class, students explore writing and drawing skills. Students make their own journal to use in response to writing and drawing prompts based on daily themes, to practice skills of interpretation, self-expression and communication using writing and drawing. Introduction of easy poetry forms like haiku and lost-and-found collage exercises encourage creativity and free association, with writing and drawing components. See your student grow in their ability to write and draw to express themselves! Materials include pencils and pens, drawing tools, office and drawing paper, magazines, and collage supplies.

Game DesignIn this class, students will work together to create a collaborative game map, including characters, objects, challenges and objectives. Using a multitude of art skills, materials, tools and abundant imagination, students will create all elements of a game as they play it. Each day will be a new task and a new level in their game, with students making decisions for how to change things, what rules to follow… and what rules to break! This multi-media and SEL-informed class will encourage community collaboration and creative thinking for students who are interested in making and playing games, character design and crafting. Learning practice includes social-emotional skills in self- and social-awareness, collaborative problem-solving, and decision-making.
