Featured Artist: October 2026 Ann Lahr
After years of working in two-dimensional art, experimentation with mixed media led Corvallis potter Ann Lahr to ceramics, where she explores texture, form, and a material that often seems to have ideas of its own.
“I am on an adventure with the clay, and much of the time I am not sure if I am leading the way or the clay itself is.”
For the past several years, children’s drawings have provided inspiration for much of Ann’s work. She translates their imaginative lines and forms into three-dimensional ceramic pieces, striving to retain the essence of each drawing while creating work that stands as art on its own.
Another part of Ann’s practice is sacred art, created with the intention of becoming part of others’ spiritual journeys. At the heart of this work is her belief that art allows us to interact and connect even when we have never met, and that an artwork can take someone somewhere they might not have gone on their own.
And then there are the little cats. Those, Ann says, are simply “for fun and entertainment.”
Ann works from her studio in the forest on the edge of Corvallis, spending hours with slabs of wet clay and following ideas wherever they lead. She works primarily with wood and soda firing, processes whose unpredictability becomes part of the creative journey and helps complete each piece.
