Judith Sander was born and grew up in Southern California where she worked with the art and drama departments and earned her BA degree from San Diego State University.  She went on to create costumes and stage sets for theatre productions as much as possible while raising a family.

Sander has been working in mixed media collage for many years since moving to Oregon in 1981.  She has found it a challenge to bring together her earlier experiences as well as bringing together various mediums into a dramatic interplay.  She combines old photographs, digital images, printed papers, stamps, words, bones, lace, oil pastels, acrylic paints and pencil.  The finished image may bear only the slightest resemblance to the original image, due to the intervention of the process.

This is one of her favorite quotes: “Color is my day long obsession, joy and torment.”  Claude Monet
