ABOUT THE EXHIBITION
With her exhibition Daily Sanctuary, Angel Black invites you to reconsider your daily routines in the context of ritual and transformation. Through this exhibition, Black pulls you into her version of sanctuary using softly articulated figures and visceral sculptures. Her work challenges the line between routine and ritual, while exploring the deeply personal aspects of life that take place behind the closed doors.
Black joins TAC curator, Jennie Castle, for a conversation on TAC Makes: A Podcast, available now on Spotify.
ABOUT THE ARTIST
Angel Black is a Corvallis based artist receiving her Bachelors of Fine Arts at Oregon State University in 2023. She received the 2023 Presidents Purchase Award and the 2023 Arts Center Corrine Woodman Gallery Award and Residency. Angel predominantly paints large and loose acrylic paintings depicting figures in dream-like spaces and incorporating symbolic plants pulled from herbal medicine and Victorian flower language. Her sculptures are made from fabric, yarn, and ceramics and allude to the body, visceral flesh and bones. Her work explores the role of ritual in daily life and its ability to bring awareness to an individual’s power over their perception of life and often includes themes of feminism and healing.
