About the Exhibition

Shut up, an exhibition by artist Kathy Ross, explores function and form while confronting society’s acceptance of noise pollution.

Her works are filled to the brim. With whimsical style, she repurposes detritus into dynamic sculptures that ask the viewer to consider the overwhelming clamor in which we all live.

“Nobody seems to know this but — the soundscape is a commons. Like air. like water. You can’t just dump mercury into the river. So, can’t we have some agreements about noise pollution too? Once in a while couldn’t we just have a day free from helicopters, leaf blowers, trucks, dirt bikes, lawnmowers, planes and target practice. When did we sign off on all this? I’m going to write SHUT UP on my roof in huge letters.” – Kathy Ross
