Please stop by to meet me (and a few returning students), visit the studio hosting our classes this summer, and get answers to all your sewing class questions! This is also a great opportunity to talk about options for 1:1 sessions (mostly I am going to say ‘yes, we can totally do that’) and home visits (‘sure, that would be on my way to Costco anyway’). If children are interested but aren’t quite sure if they want to commit, bring them along to get comfortable with me and the space and – most excitingly of course – check out the child-focused project and supply options that will be available to them during Supported Open Sewing classes (a new option this year)! About the instructor Fifth Generation Sewing classes are taught by Dr. Michelle Marie (she/her), a fourth-generation sewist who invites you to become part of the fifth generation of people who sew.  She’s been sewing for over 35 years (depending on when you start counting), holds a Ph.D. in Apparel Design and Human Environment, and takes seriously the project of handing down four generations of sewing expertise to you.  Michelle’s approach to teaching sewing starts with the importance of using your machine correctly and emphasizes the effectiveness of sewing conventions along with the value of expressing yourself with what you make.
