About the Class
This 2-day workshop offers an immersive introduction to abstract Waxed Powder Painting, a medium that combines powdered pigments and beeswax on paper. Participants move through a creative arc that begins with sharpening perception to develop abstraction and leads into full expression using the medium.
As the workshop continues, participants will create stencils, explore gesture and chance, and discover how powder, paper, and wax can offer surprising depth and resonance. The workshop ends with an informal group showing of the work made during the workshop.
Students will learn:
- Basic understanding of abstraction and visual language
- Basics of painting with pigment powders

About the Instructor
Corey Pressman is an artist and writer whose work explores the interplay of perception, imagination, and the natural world. His visual art, grounded in contemplative abstraction, has been exhibited nationally and is held in permanent collections. Pressman is the originator of waxed-powder painting, a technique in which dry powdered pigments are applied directly to paper and finished with beeswax-based varnishes. He also facilitates workshops on abstraction, perception, and creative attention at various institutions.
