For the 2013 exhibition year, instead of one general Call to Artists, The Arts Center will release a number of targeted calls for specific exhibits. We are transitioning away from our printed ArtSpirit newsletter, therefore these calls will only be announced electronically: via our website, Facebook page, and/or through our future email newsletters*.
The 2013 exhibits that are currently in development for open calls are the following: The Howland Community OPEN exhibition, an exhibit about the art of video games design and animation, and an exhibit about surface design in fiber (this show will accompany Benton County Historical Museum’s 'Quilt County' event).
Please check our website & Facebook page regularly for updates!
*We are in the process of getting our email newsletter system in place -- once completed, you will have the opportunity to subscribe/unsubscribe via our website.
Call to Oregon Installation Artists
The Arts Center invites artists working in installation art to submit proposals for a new offsite exhibitions program, Art in Rural Storefronts. The program supports risk-taking and non-commercial artists by exhibiting work that would otherwise not be shown in traditional retail/gallery spaces.
Eligibility and Selection Criteria:
The application is open to all Oregon-based visual artists or artist groups. Artists must have an interest in transforming an unused storefront into a site-specific art installation that is relevant to a diverse rural community. Artists with experience working in media that constitute installations/integrated environments will have preference in the selection process.
Applications will be evaluated based on excellence, relevance, feasibility and the degree to which the proposal matches the project’s goal to exhibit work that would otherwise not be shown.
Deadline and Exhibition Dates:
Honorarium:
The Arts Center will provide an honorarium of $1200 to selected artists. The honorarium covers artist expenses for the project including design, fabrication, travel and installation.
About Art in Rural Storefronts:
Art in Rural Storefronts serves regional audiences in Linn and Benton Counties by bringing innovative, thought-provoking art projects to rural communities that lack spaces dedicated to contemporary/non-commercial art. More than just a beautification project, Art in Rural Storefronts strives to bring new ideas to unexpected community spaces. The project also supports regional artists by providing the opportunity to share their work to new audiences.
Art in Rural Storefronts is collaboration between The Arts Center and Rural Development Initiatives. The project is funded in part by the Oregon Arts Commission.
Application Instructions:
All artist applications must be submitted via email.
Proposals must include:

Criteria for the selection are artistic excellence, relevance, feasibility and the degree to which the proposal matches the Art in Rural Storefronts project’s goal to exhibit work that would otherwise not be shown.
