About the Exhibition
Resting My Bones is an exhibition in which Ohio artist Steve Ehret works through intimate struggles with death, separation and fatherhood.
In his paintings, Ehret magnifies the beauty of the mundane through imagined landscapes inspired by the industrial midwest. He presents creatures, personified emotions, who distract and impeach his personal growth, while continually embracing the humor, beauty and magic found in everyday life.
About the Artist
Self-taught painter Steve Ehret (Monster Steve) is inspired by both nature and the humans and creatures that tend to show up in his daily life. Ehrey takes mental notes and snapshots of these scenes that can often inspire the phantasmal settings of his paintings. On varying surfaces he often breaks apart these settings in a way that speaks to the randomness of each passing moment. His goal is not realism, but rather a sense of gravity, atmosphere, wonder, nostalgia, grief and the humor in it all. He enjoys digging for the magic in the small moments, the throwaways. Whether working in oils, mixed media, or on a mural project his pieces can almost be viewed as an escape from everyday life, but underneath it all there we are.
