Reception (CAW): Thursday December 15, 2022

In the series What We Hold On To by local artist Jeff Gunn, each sculpture presents a figure open for interpretation, with a potential narrative for the viewer to discover. This body of work invites the viewer to stop and investigate the subtle aspects of each sculpture, and reflect on each posture, face (or no face) and platform supporting the figure. What do we hold on to? The list is endless, from the abstract to the literal.
The objects being held might suggest the obvious, such as “I am a fisherman”, or a figure holding on to a loved one might suggest cherished family time. However, asking deeper questions will only enhance a viewer’s experience. “What emotions are interlaced with the things we hold on to?”
