The functional, food-safe, high-fire Porcelain/stoneware pieces I produce are fashioned after the folk pottery and Faience of Italy and France. My watercolor painting style is influenced by this folk-art aesthetic and by my love for the paintings and drawings of Raoul Dufy and Henri Matisse. I work primarily on the potters’ wheel focusing on one-of-a-kind pieces. Each one is hand-painted directly on the piece without prior sketching. My aim as an artist, is to inject joy and lightness into each piece I make. If I can bring a smile to the face of my viewer, then in my mind, my work is a success. Sue Mason
