About the Class
Explore the art of weaving through a variety of materials and techniques in this hands-on workshop designed for teen artists. Participants will learn the parts of a loom, how yarn is made, and the basics of weaving methods while experimenting with different textures, patterns, and recycled materials. Projects will include mini yarn tapestries, round weavings with fabric scraps, painted paper designs, and mixed media pieces that combine traditional and unexpected materials.
This class emphasizes creativity, problem solving, and the value of sustainable making. Each day, students will complete 1–2 pieces while developing a strong foundation in fiber arts and discovering how weaving can take on many shapes, sizes, and styles. No prior experience is needed—just curiosity and a willingness to explore.
About the Instructor
Emily McKenzie began weaving in 2018 as a way to support her mental and physical health. During this time, she recognized the importance of accessible art forms. She now teaches round weaving workshops as a way for people of all ages to connect with creativity and self. Outside of the studio, Emily can be found hiking with her partner and rescue dog, in class at Portland State where she is currently studying graphic design, and at Portland area art markets.
