Deb Curtis is a fiber artist and has taught fiber arts for more than 37 years and basketry for more than 31 years. She is very interested in leading small groups wishing to learn the art of basketry.
Deb Curtis feels that baskets and basketry is a tradition that is changing. She designs and produces contemporary baskets using traditional basketry materials. By linking basket materials with knitting, tapestry weaving, or surface design she creates “new” baskets. Through the blending of colors and textures she changes the character of the basket from only a functional vessel to a container that expresses a concept.
Deb has been using various fiber arts in creative methods for more than 50 years. Fiber arts she has also taught: embroidery, knitting, crocheting. Deb says “I love working with my hands and find great satisfaction in actualizing ideas, whether my own or helping someone else to realize theirs.”
Deb has been been juried into and has won awards in local, regional and national shows, such as “Around Oregon Annual”, National Basketry Organization’s “All Things Considered” and “Beaver Tales”.
