Soulful Collage: Discovering the Mythical Self
Soulful collage is an art form accessible to anyone- no matter what their relationship is to creating art. This type of collage allows the unconscious to give expression to the parts of the psyche that are usually unknowable or beyond deciphering. In this process, we use images that we are drawn to, collected from various sources, and assemble them spontaneously and intuitively. The resulting collages allow us to reflect on the archetypal energies that rise up from the depths of the unconscious, both personal and collective.
About the Instructor, Carol Freya Soth:
Carol Freya Soth loves plumbing the depths of the mythic worlds and weaving what she finds into her artist books, shrines and soul collages. Recently she has been an Artist in Residence at the Mendocino Art Center and an artist is residence in the Corvallis, Oregon schools.
“I never have a plan about what a collage is going to be. I see what grabs my attention among my images and I just jump in. Sometimes I recognize a theme emerging as I work on a piece. But often it is only after a piece is done that I begin to understand what it is saying to me. And even then it tends to ripen and evolve and other insights are gleaned over time.
I love what happens when this work is done in a group setting. Everyone is energized by the collective process and is enriched by the insights gained from each other’s work. I never cease to be awed by how each person’s collages are so uniquely mythic.”

A Dinner and Micro-Fundraiser for Community Projects
at Gathering Together Farm
The Arts Center is proud to present FEAST!, a simple group dinner featuring locally grown produce where guests fund-raise for projects through pooled community patronage. This event is part of American Spring, a collaboration between The Arts Center, The Majestic Theatre, and Oregon Humanities.
How it works:
On Sunday, May 20, Gathering Together Farms will prepare a simple dinner of soup, bread and salad. Guests pay a $10 donation for the meal and a voting ballot. During the meal, artists and community groups take turns giving short (1 - 2 minute) presentations about projects or ideas they are working on. At the end of the dinner, guests each cast a ballot for their favorite project and the winner receives 100% evening's pool of donations.
RSVP Required:
If you'd like to attend, or if you are an artist/community group interested in presenting, please email Josephine Zarkovich, makersspace [AT] majestic [DOT] org, Subject: FEAST Dinner.

The history of FEAST:
Funding Emerging Artists with Sustainable Tactics (FEAST) began with a community of artists in Brooklyn. Since its creation in 2009, FEAST Brooklyn has produced 12 dinners, funded 30 projects, and awarded $19,656. Other organizations are invited to use the FEAST model as long as they credit the creators.
