At-risk Programming

At-risk Programming

The Arts Center works with over 1,400 children per year who would otherwise not have access to art education opportunities.

Over the course of 12 months, up to 30 different teaching artists  provide workshops for at-risk youth in ceramics, sculpture, drawing, dance, music, poetry, theater, painting, and fiber arts.  These workshops have had a substantial impact on underserved youth in our community.

  • Middle school and high school students participate in a no-cost mentorship program matching them with local artists. The program includes students from College Hill Alternative High School, Crescent Valley, Corvallis High School, and Linus Pauling Middle School.
  • Families receive scholarships that allow children to attend ceramics, painting, drawing, and dance classes at The Arts Center at no cost.
  • Elementary school students work directly with artists in their classrooms as part of The Arts Center’s school residency program.  This program provides FREE arts education opportunities at schools in low income communities.
  • Children receive music classes at no cost  through Rhythm Core. This Programs benefits Corvallis School District students who have little or no access to music education.
  • Young women (ages 12-21) in the transitional parole program at Oak Creek correctional facility participate in 10 weeks of intensive visual arts and writing workshops with local artists.
